Some of the best soup in the city and definitely my first stop when I feel under the weather. Try the cabbage soup or the mushroom barley for soup that's good for your soul. Just be warned that it's cash only.

This place looks like a hole in the wall, but the staff are so friendly and the food is so delicious that you HAVE TO GO! My husband and I didn't even have to see a menu, our waiter simply asked us how hungry we were and brought out plate after plate of their best dishes!

If you don't love this place, you don't have a soul. Came here with a few friends in town, one of whom is Polish and grew up eating polish food cooked by his grandmother.

And that's exactly what this place is, basically an old polish grandmother who makes authentic, wonderful polish food like you'd expect from a trip back home.

If I had a wonderful Polish grandma and I ate at her house, it'd feel like Podhalanka.

The food is hot, the environs homey and the service relaxed. Helena, the owner, is friendly but no frills. If she is out of something, you have to deal with it. As other reviewers mention, Helena will recommend things and sometimes "order for you." If you don't want to end up with an extra appetizer, be sure to run through the order with her.

All in all, Podhalanka is a true Polish Chicago gem! Will always come back.

What a sweet little place. Next time I will go earlier and really eat dinner there. All the food looked delicious and the folks eating there were families and obvious regulars. It's right next to one of my favorite theaters so they'll see me again.

The kindness and warmth exhibited by the owners are the reason I return. This place is a total gem (with the best soups I have EVER EATEN) and no matter how far I travel, I will always be back!

This place is NOT a scam. If you're a first time guest, the owner will ply you with nothing but DELICIOUS food items. Come here if you can put aside some of your inhibitions and let the expert take care of you. Obviously - your subsequent visits will allow you to order whatever YOU would prefer to eat with zero pressure. Service is fast, attentive, friendly, and warm. Just be firm in what you want to order.

The food is so delicious. I would cry if they ever closed down. I've come all the way from NYC to order items like the cabbage soup, white borscht, beet salad, and pierogi's.

Please support restaurants like this. They deserve the love.

This place was great. Not crowded, and a really nice family feel. You do need to beware that it is cash only. And the waiter will recommend a good menu for you, but it's going to cost you about $50. They have wonderful house made kielbasa. So smokey, and so tender! The cabbage rolls are quite plump. The pyrogies come in a variety, and I think I like the chicken the best.  Then don't forget about the blintzes!  It's in the latkes were  different from ones that I've had at other places.  Chicago has a wonderful Polish history.

I walked in and was greeted by Greg who took care of me at the bar. I started with cabbage soup and rye bread and continued with the pierogi and sausage. Amazing food and amazing people. The place has been around 30+ years. Lively. Fun. Delicious.
